Take out the garbage

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,

by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander

be put away from you,

along with all malice.

Be kind to one another,

tender-hearted,

forgiving each other,

just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:30-32

Dear heavenly Father,

In mercy and grace You have forgiven me, a sinner. You have lavished love upon me while I did not deserve an ounce of it. You have put away all my sin as far as the east is from the west. How great is Your lovingkindness to me, Your child!

Father, I confess that I do not always respond to others with the same love and forgiveness that You have shown me. Forgive me for allowing such things into my life.

I pray that You will show me everything within me that grieves You, and should be thrown out including every speck of

  • my bitterness,
  • my wrath,
  • my anger,
  • my clamor,
  • my slander,
  • my malice.

Examine every corner of my heart that it will be exposed and eliminated from my behavior, and no longer cause You grief.

I am Your child, and I desire to walk as such.

I want my life show You living in me with kindness,

with a tender heart, and

with forgiveness.

Even forgiveness.

Even forgiveness that hasn’t been requested.

Father, help me forgive.

Help me to fill my heart with only You

and those things pleasing to You.

Let Your love shine through me today.

I pray in Jesus’ name,

Amen.
