Rejoice in suffering
“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake,
and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body,
which is the church,
in filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.”
My Father, and My God,
It goes against my human nature to rejoice in any type of suffering.
Yet, I can knowing that any suffering I endure because I bear Your name,
is to join in the suffering of Christ.
So, I can count it as a joy to suffer (if only slightly) as He suffered on my behalf.
When I carry His name as Christian,
I welcome the eternal benefits and the earthly sufferings that come with it.
If there were to be a means by which I could begin to repay my Savior, I will rejoice in whatever that cost may be on earth. Still, that would be nothing compared to the suffering You endured because of my sin.
If there were a way to be more like Him, Who suffered so much for me, perhaps it would begin by following Him so completely that my heart would put aside the thoughts of temporary pain in order to bring another into the kingdom.
So, I offer that to You, my Father, today. I offer whatever it takes from me to further Your will and Your kingdom work.
I pray these things in the name of the One Who gave His life for mine, Jesus,
