Speak Blessing

“…And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity;

the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and

sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell…

But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.

With it we bless our Lord and Father, and

with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God;

from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.

My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water?

Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs?

Nor can salt water produce fresh.”

James 3:5-12

Dear Father,

How can it be that I use my tongue to praise You and to say those things that are displeasing to You? I confess that I allow my speech to stray from Your control, and use it in critical, angry, and frivolous speech. Forgive me.

I am Yours Lord, and my tongue needs Your control.

I give it to You to further Your kingdom.

I give it to You to build up Your kingdom.

I give it to You to speak of Your goodness and mercy and grace.

I pray You will use me today to speak those things that bless others.

I pray that my speech will be measured with Your Holy Spirit guiding each word.

I pray that You will be the Master of

  • my heart and
  • my thoughts and
  • my actions and
  • my words.

I pray in Jesus’ name,
