“Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered and said to her,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age;

and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

For nothing will be impossible with God.”

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord;
may it be done to me according to your word.”
And the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:34-38

It wasn’t her plan. It wasn’t even her idea. After Gabriel told Mary she would bear a son, Mary did not understand how she could bear a child because she was a virgin.

The angel told her the child would be of the Holy Spirit, the Son of God. He told her of another miracle. Elizabeth would also bear a son who would be born just before Jesus.
The angel knew the miraculous nature of both and reminded her that “nothing will be impossible with God.
That reminder was all Mary needed to understand and accept this wonderful news. “The bond-slave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.”
She knew something more powerful than “how?”
She knew “Who.”
She knew if God said it, that no matter how difficult to understand, that His Word will be accomplished. She didn’t have to understand it, she accepted it as a servant.
I am thankful that nothing is impossible with Him. I am thankful that He is still working miracles. He is still faithful to perform His Word. It is a truth you we can hang onto every single day.
