Be An Overcomer
by Lilian E. De Silva
Welcome back Mrs. De Silva! We enjoyed learning about your book The Promised Messiah. What do you have for us today?
An expository study of the first three chapters of the Book of Revelation of The Holy Bible.
What led you to write this book?
Giving an opportunity to the reader to understand the Lord’s warning to be an overcomer
Who might benefit from this study?
Thank you for sharing a sample with us. What is it about?
This beautiful description resembles the vision of the Messiah which Daniel received in Daniel 10: 5, 6.
Comparing the symbols with scripture, we get a graphic understanding.
1) His dress was of Priestly order – speaking of Jesus, Hebrews 8: 1 says, Jesus is our High Priest.
2) His head and hair were like white wool, as white as snow
In John 8: 58, Jesus told the Jews, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am”. Jesus is from the ancient of days.
3) His eyes were like blazing fire
His eyes penetrate to see the depth of our hearts. The eyes of the Lord run throughout the whole earth, 2 Chronicles 16: 9
Jeremiah 32: 19 says, God’s eyes are open to all the ways of men.
4) His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace
We see the strength and majesty of the one ordained to judge the earth as said in Acts 17: 31. Also John 5: 22 says, the Father has entrusted all judgment to the Son.
5) His voice was like the sound of rushing waters
There is power in His voice like rushing waters as Ezekiel describes the voice of God in, Ezekiel 43: 2, ‘His voice was like the roar of rushing waters.
6) In His right hand He held seven stars – shows His authority
Revelation 1: 20 – Jesus Himself explained the seven stars as the angels of the seven churches to which John was asked to write. We see the complete authority of Jesus over those who minister in His name.
7) Out of His mouth came a sharp double edged sword
Hebrews 4: 12 tells us the living active Word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword, to judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
In Genesis 1: 1 we see God’s creative power in the creation of the heavens and the earth by His Word.
Ephesians 6: 17, “Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God”.
8) His Face was like the sun shining in all it’s brilliance.
The strength of the glory of God is as the shining sun. When Jesus was transfigured before His disciples, His face shone like the sun, Matthew 17: 2
John saw the explicit Glory of Christ.
