Equipped to overcome Temptation

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted by the devil.
And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights,
He then became hungry.
And the tempter came and said to Him,
“If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
But He answered and said, “It is written,
‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE,
BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’”
Matthew 4:1-4
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank You for recording the temptation of Jesus for us, and the example to use when the enemy attacks us today.
Thank You for the reminder that holiness does not exempt me from temptation. There was none more holy, sinless, and righteous than Christ, yet He was tempted.
Thank You for the reminder that the enemy used a weakness of the flesh (hunger) to tempt Him.
Thank You for the reminder that Christ put aside the desire of His flesh (food), did not take the advice of the enemy, but relied on the Word of God for guidance.
Father, because I bear the name of Christ, the enemy seeks to mislead me as he did Jesus so long ago. He is cunning enough to seize opportunities when I am at weak point, where I am easily tempted and speaks words that appeal  to my need and desire. Oh, Father, forgive me for the times I have listened to his lies, instead of seeking Your wisdom!
Today, I ask for wisdom to recognize Your truth that I will not be tempted by his lies.
Today, I ask for courage to rebuke him with Your truth.
Today I seek Your Word to be so firmly implanted within me
that It guides my path to act in righteousness.
Today I seek Your Word to be firmly anchored in Truth
that his lies will sound so ridiculous that I will not be tempted to consider them.
May I never be so weak I fall into the lies of my adversary. Thank You for equipping me with Your Holy Spirit, Your Word of truth, and the means to approach Your throne. May I never lay aside my armour!
I pray in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
